How to Factory Reset Your Samsung Galaxy

Steps

When the Galaxy is Turned On

  1. Open your Galaxy’s Settings.To do this, swipe down from the top of the home screen, then tap .
    • A factory reset will delete all of the data on your phone, including your personal files and apps.
  2. TapGeneral management.It’s near the center of the screen.
  3. TapReset.It’s toward the bottom of the menu, and may be called “Backup and Reset” on some Galaxies.
  4. TapFactory data reset.It’s the third option under “RESET.”
  5. Scroll down and tapRESET.It’s the blue button at the bottom of the screen.
  6. Enter your PIN or pattern.A confirmation message will appear.
  7. TapDELETE ALL.Your Galaxy will now be returned to its original factory settings. Once the process is complete, the phone or tablet will restart and you’ll be able to set it up from scratch.

When the Galaxy is Turned Off

  1. Power off your Galaxy.If your Galaxy is frozen or there is an issue with the screen, it can be helpful to do a factory reset when it’s completely turned off.
    • A factory reset will delete all of the data on your phone, including your personal files and apps.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up, Bixby, and Power buttons at the same time.When the Galaxy vibrates, release your fingers.This will bring you to the Android Recovery screen.
    • The Bixby button is below the Volume Down on the left side of your Galaxy.
  3. SelectWipe data/factory reset.To do this, press the Volume Down button until the option is highlighted in blue. If you go down too far, use the Volume Up key to go back.
  4. Press the Power button.This selects the factory reset option and displays a confirmation.
  5. Select .Again, use the volume buttons to select this item.
  6. Press the Power button.
  7. SelectReboot system now.It’s the first option in the list.
  8. Press the Power button to start the reset.The data on your Galaxy will now be erased, and the phone or tablet will return to its original default settings.

    Yes. Factory reset only works on phone memory and not on the SIM card. But all your contacts from SIM card you have saved, pictures, and the messages in your phone will be deleted. Better to back those up before initiating factory reset.
